PRIVACY

Your information. Plainly explained.

Here's what I collect when you use my website or get in touch, why I need it and how to ask questions about your information.

Who operates this website

This is the privacy policy for mattg.com.au, operated by Matt G, an independent web developer based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Contact me at matt@mattg.com.au about this policy or your information.

What information I collect

If you contact me or send a project brief, I may receive your email address, name, business or project name, website address, what you need help with, your preferred timing, budget indication and anything else you choose to write.

If you request the full free website-check report, I collect the email address you enter, the public website URL you asked me to test, whether you chose mobile or desktop, the time of the request, summary numbers for the report and whether a report email was sent.

Like most websites, hosting and security services may process technical data such as IP address, browser information, pages requested, approximate location derived from network information and error or security events. Cloudflare Web Analytics may collect aggregated usage and performance information. Please do not include passwords, payment-card information, private account details or sensitive personal information in a form, URL or email.

How I collect and use it

I receive information when you fill in a project brief, request a full report, or email me. I use it to respond, discuss your website, provide the report you requested, keep a record of enquiries, maintain the service, prevent misuse and understand how the site is used.

A report request can generate an email with a link to your website check and a notification to me. A project brief is sent to me and may be saved for follow-up. I may reply about an enquiry you made. These features do not enrol you in a general newsletter. If I send separate promotional emails, I will do so only where permitted by applicable law and provide a way to opt out. You can ask me not to contact you about further work by emailing matt@mattg.com.au.

Website checks and third-party tools

When you run the checker, it requests the public website address you provide and may inspect a limited number of linked public pages. The check can submit that public URL to Google PageSpeed Insights, the W3C HTML validator and Google Public DNS, depending on which checks are available. Those providers can process the URL and request information under their own terms and privacy practices. Do not enter a private, confidential or password-protected address.

The website is delivered through Cloudflare, including hosting, security controls, analytics and D1 database storage. When configured, transactional messages and project enquiry emails use Resend. My code is hosted in GitHub, but enquiry data is not stored in the public code repository.

Where information is held and shared

Enquiry and report-signup records may be kept in a Cloudflare D1 database and in copies of emails sent to me. They are not displayed publicly. Access to stored enquiries and any CSV exports is restricted through administration controls.

Cloudflare, Resend, Google and other infrastructure providers may handle information through services or personnel outside Australia, including potentially the United States and other countries where they operate. The precise countries involved can vary by service, routing and configuration. I do not publish or sell the personal information visitors submit through these forms. I may disclose information where required by law or to advisers or service providers who need it for the purposes described here.

Cookies, local storage and analytics

The website uses Cloudflare services for delivery, analytics and security. Those services may use technical identifiers or similar mechanisms as needed for those purposes. The free website checker also remembers in your browser that you have unlocked the full report, using local storage, so you do not have to enter your address every time on that device.

You can clear browser data and adjust privacy settings in your browser. This may remove the remembered report-unlock setting or affect some features.

Security and retention

I use access controls and security protections intended to reduce the risk of unauthorised access, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

I keep enquiry and report records only for as long as reasonably needed to answer requests, manage client relationships, maintain records and meet legal obligations. There is not currently a published fixed automatic-deletion period for every record. You can contact me to ask about deletion or retention of your information. Backups, email copies and legal obligations may limit immediate removal.

Access, correction and privacy complaints

You can email matt@mattg.com.au to ask what personal information I hold about you, request a correction, ask for deletion where appropriate, or make a privacy complaint. Please include enough detail for me to locate the record; I may need to verify that it is yours before releasing information.

I will review your request, explain what I can do and respond within a reasonable period. If you are dissatisfied with how I handle a complaint, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, depending on the law that applies. This policy describes my practices; it is not a statement that every Australian Privacy Principle necessarily applies to this business.

Changes to this policy

I may update this page when the website, its providers or legal requirements change. The current version and its last-updated date will appear here. Material changes to how information is handled will be reflected in this policy.
